Estradiol cream, Rx only, is a compounded product and has not been FDA-approved or evaluated for safety, efficacy, or quality but may be used to treat menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes. It may increase the risk of endometrial cancer, stroke, deep vein thrombosis and probable dementia in women 65+ when using estrogen alone, and stroke, deep vein thrombosis, myocardial infarction, invasive breast cancer, and probable dementia in women 65+ when using estrogen plus progestin. Possible side effects may include headache, flatulence, and breast pain.

Estradiol transdermal patch, Rx only, may increase the risk of endometrial cancer, stroke, deep vein thrombosis and probable dementia in women 65+ when using estrogen alone, and stroke, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, myocardial infarction, stroke, invasive breast cancer, and probable dementia in women 65+ when using estrogen plus progestin. Possible side effects may include headache, breast tenderness, back pain, cold symptoms, and indigestion.

Estradiol vaginal insert, Rx only, may increase the risk of endometrial cancer, stroke, deep vein thrombosis, and probable dementia in women 65+ when using estrogen alone, and stroke, deep vein thrombosis, myocardial infarction, invasive breast cancer, and probable dementia in women 65+ when using estrogen plus progestin. It may cause side effects including upper respiratory tract infections, headache, abdominal pain, itching, and yeast infection.

Progesterone, Rx only, when used with estrogen may increase the risk of deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, stroke, myocardial infarction, probable dementia, and invasive breast cancer. It may cause side effects including headache, breast tenderness, joint pain, depression, and dizziness.
